If you have asked three Worcester web designers for a quote, you have probably had three answers between £500 and £15,000 for what sounds like the same site. That is not because they are dishonest. It is because "a website" means six different things, and almost no business owner gets a clear breakdown of what each price actually buys.

I run Psychemeta — a Worcester product studio. I build websites for a small number of local businesses every year, and I have also built and shipped three SaaS products with their own sites. I see real Worcester web pricing all the time, from £400 freelancer quotes to £40,000 enterprise rebuilds. This guide is what I would tell a friend who asked me the question.

The five ways you can buy a website in Worcester

Before talking numbers, understand the actual buying options. They are not all-or-nothing — many Worcester businesses end up in a mix.

1. DIY platform (Wix, Squarespace, Carrd, Webflow templates)

Cost: £15 – £40 per month. You spend: 20 – 60 hours of your own time.

The genuine cheapest option. For a one-person business, a single-page launch site, or a portfolio while you decide what to do properly, this is fine. The trap is treating this as your long-term presence — DIY sites rarely rank, rarely convert, and almost always look like every other DIY site. If you are serious about growth, this is a temporary stop, not a destination.

2. A Worcester freelance web designer

Cost band: £800 – £4,000 for a brochure site. You spend: 5 – 15 hours collaborating.

Best value if you already have brand, copy and a clear brief. A good freelancer ships a clean site fast. The risk is what is missing — usually proper SEO setup, accessibility, conversion thinking, or post-launch support. If the freelancer is also doing strategy and copy for you, the gap closes but the cost rises.

3. A small Worcester or Midlands agency

Cost band: £4,500 – £12,000 for a small business website. You spend: 15 – 40 hours over 6 – 12 weeks.

The most common option for established Worcester businesses. You get strategy, design, copy, build, SEO setup and launch. Quality varies hugely — and so does price. The good ones earn their fee back in 6 months. The bad ones leave you with a slow site you can't edit and a £200/month "care plan" that does little. Whichever route you take, the site only pays back if people find it — our Worcester Local SEO Guide covers exactly that, with a free 40-point audit checklist.

4. A founder-led product studio (the Psychemeta model)

Cost band: £5,000 – £15,000 depending on scope. You spend: 10 – 25 hours over 4 – 8 weeks.

Smaller scope of clients per year, founder-led delivery, no junior-staff dilution. You get the senior person on every call and every commit. Better for businesses where the founder wants direct contact with whoever is actually building the thing. Bias warning: this is what I do.

5. A larger Midlands or London agency

Cost band: £15,000 – £80,000+ for a small to mid-sized business website. You spend: 30 – 80 hours over 3 – 6 months.

Right for businesses with complex integrations (Salesforce, Hubspot, multi-region ecommerce), strict brand guidelines, or compliance constraints (financial services, healthcare). Overkill for a Worcester service business.

What actually changes the price

Six factors do almost all the work in moving a quote up or down. When you compare quotes, compare these.

01

Page count and complexity

A 5-page brochure site is materially different work from a 25-page service business site with location pages, blog and integrations. Expect roughly £300 – £600 per additional content page of meaningful depth.

02

Copy

This is the single biggest hidden cost. If you can supply final, edited, SEO-aware copy yourself, you can save £1,500 – £4,500. If you need it written for you, factor that in. Most "cheap" quotes assume you supply copy — and most businesses can't.

03

Brand state

If you have a clean logo, defined colours, set typography and clear positioning, build moves quickly. If brand work is needed first (research, naming, identity), add £2,500 – £6,500 to the project. More on what brand work covers.

04

Integrations

Booking systems, CRMs, payment gateways, e-commerce, member areas, automation hooks — each integration is roughly half a day to two weeks of additional work depending on what it has to do. Always list every system the site needs to talk to before getting quotes.

05

SEO setup

Some agencies include local SEO setup, schema, sitemap, content optimisation and Google Business Profile work in the build. Others charge it separately — typically £750 – £2,500 on top. Always ask which it is, because "SEO-ready" is a marketing phrase, not a deliverable.

06

Speed of delivery

Standard build: 6 – 10 weeks. Rushed to 3 – 4 weeks: expect +20 – 40% for the disruption to other client work. If you have a hard launch date, mention it on the first call — it changes how the project should be scoped.

Realistic 2026 budgets by business type

Real numbers from real Worcester / Worcestershire businesses I've quoted or built for. These are working budgets — what you should plan to spend if you want something that actually performs, not a stripped quote you'll regret in a year.

Business type Realistic 2026 budget Typical timeline
Solo trader / professional (5–7 page site) £2,500 – £4,500 3 – 5 weeks
Local service business (electrician, salon, garage) £4,500 – £8,500 5 – 8 weeks
Established multi-service SME £7,500 – £14,000 6 – 10 weeks
Hospitality venue (pub, restaurant, hotel) £6,500 – £12,000 5 – 9 weeks
Small ecommerce (under 100 SKUs) £8,000 – £18,000 8 – 12 weeks
B2B / SaaS site with integrations £10,000 – £25,000 8 – 14 weeks

These ranges assume copy is included, brand is roughly in place, and the agency or studio is doing proper SEO setup. Strip those out and the numbers drop — but so does what you get.

What the £500 quote leaves out

You will see £500 – £1,500 quotes in Worcester. They are real. They also typically miss:

  • Accessibility (WCAG 2.2) — increasingly a legal requirement, especially for healthcare, public-sector or larger commercial sites.
  • Proper page speed — Google penalises slow sites in 2026 more than ever, and most cheap builds are slow.
  • Local SEO setup — schema, NAP consistency, Google Business Profile alignment, llms.txt for AI search engines. None of this is built into a £500 site.
  • Real copy — almost always you supply your own, which means it's usually weak.
  • Post-launch support — when something breaks at 11pm before a busy weekend, you're on your own.
  • Code ownership — some cheap builds leave you locked into a platform you can never leave without a full rebuild.

Not all of these matter for every business. But cheap quotes usually fail to disclose what's missing, which is the actual problem.

How to brief a website project properly

Whoever you end up hiring, give them the same information. Three Worcester web designers quoting against the same brief will give you genuinely comparable numbers. Three quoting against vague hints will give you wild ranges and you'll choose badly.

A good brief includes:

  1. Your business in two paragraphs — what you do, who for, why you exist.
  2. The goal of the new site — generate enquiries, sell direct, replace an outdated site, support a rebrand. Be specific.
  3. Page list — best guess at what pages the site needs. The designer will refine this.
  4. Three sites you like — and one sentence each on why.
  5. Integrations — every external system the site needs to connect to.
  6. Brand state — clean and defined, or needs work.
  7. Copy state — you supply, or you need it written.
  8. Timeline — desired launch date and why.
  9. Budget range — yes, share it. Designers who quote without a range either pad heavily or strip aggressively.

Bottom line for a Worcester business in 2026

If you want a website that actually does work for your business — ranks locally, converts visitors, holds up for 3+ years, and doesn't lock you in — plan for £4,500 to £12,000 in 2026 depending on scale. Build it once, build it properly, and it will outperform anything cheaper.

If you want a quick presence to launch a new venture, go DIY for £30/month, and come back to do it properly when revenue is in.

If you have a complex business with integrations, e-commerce, or multi-location operations, expect to be in the £10,000 – £25,000 zone — and the ROI on a properly-built site at that scale is huge.
